Blue Phantom's ultrasound training model for thyroid fine-needle aspiration biopsy allows users to develop and practice the skills needed to achieve competence in ultrasound-guided imaging and guidance of thyroid fine-needle aspiration biopsies. This highly realistic and ultra-durable training model is excellent for training clinicians in the psychomotor skills associated with ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsies. Ultrasound skills trained include: use of ultrasound system settings, transducer positioning and movement, recognition of thyroid anatomy and surrounding structures, identification of masses in the gland, use of ultrasound calculation packages, and ultrasound guidance to lesions for fine-needle aspiration biopsy.

Our highly realistic ultrasound training model includes the thyroid gland, focal lesions suitable for fine-needle aspiration biopsy, and relevant surrounding anatomical structures. The anatomical structure includes: left and right lobes of the thyroid gland and the isthmus, multinodular goiter, multiple masses with varying sonographic characteristics, trachea, esophagus, carotid arteries, and internal jugular veins. Multiple simple and complex masses with varying sonographic characteristics are present in the model, including hypoechoic, echogenic, echolucent with an echogenic rim, and echogenic with an echolucent rim.
This ultrasound training phantom is constructed with Blue Phantom's patented ultra-durable tissue and is extremely realistic in ultrasound characteristics and feels like real human tissue. The masses in the model can be accessed with needles, and fluid can be injected to verify needle tip placement – the fluid is automatically expelled. It is recommended to use 18–21 gauge sharp, unbent needles to maximize self-healing and durability. The model works well with all ultrasound systems with appropriate transducers (recommended: high-frequency linear array ultrasound probe 7.5–15 MHz).
