Surf Rescue lifebuoy
Previously called Conscious Casualty Manikin.
This manikin was developed in collaboration with Surf Life Saving Australia as a water rescue manikin for Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Racing, IRB driver and Tube Rescue. After two years of development, several prototypes and extensive testing, they were pleased with the result. During testing, the manikin was also found suitable for Jet Ski rescue training and other general rescue scenarios.
For IRB driver training you can now train year round close to the reef and in the coldest weather to practice the quick pick ups as many times as you want. This dummy never complains about the cold water, the aching arms and the sore shoulder or jaw! These manikins will provide uniformity in the size and weight of those being rescued, which is an important factor in competitions.
The problem for many SLS clubs is finding enough willing volunteers to act as test subjects for the IRB rescue teams, especially during the colder months. This makes it difficult to develop the right skills in water rescue.
