Use ultrasound or blind insertion technique for full thoracic epidural procedural training

Our thoracic epidural replacement tissue provides clinicians with a high-quality and reliable training model for performing spinal epidural procedures in the thoracic region of the spine. The thoracic epidural tissue module is anatomically correct and includes the mid-thoracic spinal segment, skin tissue, ligamentum flavum, epidural space, dura, subarachnoid membrane, and subarachnoid space with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is present in the model to provide the user with immediate feedback on procedural complications.

This extremely realistic training module is excellent for both blind insertion and ultrasound-guided spinal epidural procedures – including needle access and catheter placement. Palpation of spinal processes provides external landmarks, while ultrasound can be used for identification of optimal insertion positions, needle angle, and depth to the ligamentum flavum and epidural space. Compatible with all ultrasound systems – no computer simulation or software required.

The training model allows clinicians to repeatedly perform the entire spinal epidural procedure: sterile field creation, local anesthetic injection, needle and catheter insertion into the epidural space. Users experience realistic tissue response including "pop" upon passage of the ligamentum flavum, loss of resistance upon epidural access, and CSF flow as feedback. All injected fluids are automatically expelled, and CSF is easily refilled via QuickFill ports.
